Our Presence at Festivals

The M&DIAI actively participates in local festivals and events.

Global Grooves is a multicultural festival hosted by Mackay Regional Council and held at Queens Park in October every year. The event has grown every year since it was first held in 2004 and now attracts more than 5000 people. It has been embraced by local cultural groups and the wider community. Our Association is involved in Global Grooves with a colourful stall called Piazza Italia, selling home-made Italian biscuits, running polenta making workshops, and showcasing a flaming red vintage Fiat Bambino. Check out the photos below for some recent involvement at this event.

The Greenmount Heritage Fair is a community event held in May each year that celebrates the heritage of the Mackay Region. It features food and market stalls selling items such as wooden toys, furniture, pottery, and arts and crafts. Bush poetry, children’s activities and amusements, displays by blacksmiths and vintage car clubs, and musical entertainment contribute to create a unique atmosphere at the grounds surrounding the Greenmount Homestead, one of Mackay's most valued historic attractions. Our Association is proud to take part in this event with a stall showcasing that Italians are part of the rich heritage of the Mackay region. A variety of mouth-watering Italian biscuits, made by our dedicated ladies, are sold at our stall.
