We are a Not-For-Profit Community Group researching and recording the history of Italian migration to the Mackay District. In addition, the M&DIAI hopes to rekindle an interest in Italian culture and to celebrate Italian contributions to the wider community.
Born in November 2012, the primary objective of the Association is to publish a migrant history book that includes stories of individuals and families that migrated from Italy and settled in the Mackay district during the twentieth century up to 1960. Parallel to this research activity, the Association hosts and participates in a variety of social activities, initiatives and events that keep alive and promote the “Italian spirit” within the local multicultural community.
The Association brings together Italians of different generations, Australians of Italian heritage and anyone with an interest or passion in Italian culture and traditions. We welcome new members to join our unique, fun and vibrant association, right here in the beautiful Mackay region.
