Welcome to the Mackay and District Italian website
We are a Not-For-Profit Community Group researching and recording the history of Italian migration to the Mackay District. In addition, the M&DIAI hopes to rekindle an interest in Italian culture and to celebrate Italian contributions to the wider community.
Events for 2020 have been cancelled
In light of recent events in relation to the COVID-19 coronavirus, including advice released by the Chief Medical Officer of Australia and the Federal Government, the Mackay and District Italian Association regrettably advises that all events that had been planned for 2020 have been cancelled, including the Jayco Italian Street Party (copy of letter attached).
This difficult decision was made at the Association monthly Management meeting held Sunday 15 March, after careful consideration of the health and safety of everyone involved.
We sincerely hope that the effects of the virus are not felt for such a prolonged period of time and will continue to monitor the situation. Should it be safe to do so, we will consider the possibility of rescheduling some of our events.
On behalf of the Association I hope that everyone stays safe during these trying times and that you all look after and support each other.
